Clowns

Evil ClownAlthough clowns started out to entertain and amuse little children, over the years, there emerged a completely different concept and these days there are many individuals - and I'm talking adults here - that actually have a fear of clowns. This fear is called "coulrophobia" which is an official medical term for someone with an abnormal fear of them. American culture through movies, books, and TV have emphasised this fear of clowns - such books as IT by Stephen King, the Joker of Batman fame recently depicted as an errily disturbing Heath Ledger performance, serial killer - John Wayne Gacey ,

The history of clowns go way back in history although they really became popular during the Middle Ages when the court jester became popular with royalty. Even those who did not reside in the local castle, served up popular entertainment with the local villagers and common citizens with juggling, magic tricks, puppet shows, and feats of impressive gymnastics.
